Jake Long, the Miami Dolphins first overall pick in the 2008 draft, announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday via his Twitter account.

Longs partial season with the Minnesota Vikings ended last year when he tore his Achilles in Week 10 against Washington. In his announcement, Long said his body is telling him its time to hang it up.

Longs career in Miami got off to a promising start. He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons with the Dolphins, and he earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2010.

Cutler will be 34 next season, and is coming off a rather dismal 2016 campaign. He started just five games thanks to injuries as the Bears went 3-13, winning just one of his starts.

Hes never quite panned out the way the Bears have hoped since he arrived in 2009 from Denver. He took the Bears to an NFC Championship in 2010, but they have won just a single playoff game since his arrival.

Now, hell be seeking a new home for the 2017 season. Teams like the Texans, Jets, 49ers, and Broncos are still looking for quarterback help going into next season, and could possibly be landing spots for Cutler.

Under the right circumstances, Cutler may still be able to be effective in the NFL. He still has a strong arm, and while his bad decisions can be frustrating for whatever team hes playing for, its certainly a better option than others.

Hes completed nearly 65 percent of his passes as recently as 2015, so he might just be worth the risk for an NFL franchise.
